If you meant you were gonna use 3rd party controllers for the PS3, they are not supported by games that came out past mid-2011, like Ratchet and Clank All 4 One.

I googled it and i'm pretty sure that newer 3rd party controllers still work.

They do work. I can confirm any controller you can still buy still works.
